Course Description:
This course has been designed for
massage therapists and bodyworkers. Werner and Benjamin (1998) best
summarize the interaction between the bodyworker and the skin by
saying “Massage practitioners speak in a language of touch. The
messages practitioners give are invitations to a number of different
possibilities: to enjoy a state of well-being; to heal and repair
what is broken; to reacquaint a client with his or her body. All
this happens through the skin, a medium equipped like no other
tissue in the body to take in information and respond to it, mostly
on a subconscious level”.
Understanding the skins structure and
function can assist the therapist in deciding what type of product
to apply, which essential oils to use and what benefit may be
gained. Everything placed onto the skin has an effect not only on
the cells of the skin but potentially on the entire physical body.
Throughout this weekend, we will explore a variety of essential
oils, base oils, herbal oils and other raw material in relation to
their application to the skin. You will learn how to blend for
unique skin types and conditions as well as how to create dynamic
skin applications/products for massage and bodywork sessions.
